- ASIAN PAINTING
There is symbolism in Asian painting. It is not just after beauty of the nature or creatures.
In Asian painting, water color and Sumi water are used exclusively; no oil paint is used. Sumi is a Japanese word for soot block. It is ground on a stone plate mixing with water into black ink. The student must learn how to make this Sumi water, the process of which is a meditation.
There are two types of Asian painting; one is multicolored and detailed, and the other is only black and white and use the blank space as well.
This class will be the latter. The predominant theme is orchid and rocks, which encompass the Chinese philosophy of the universe and the while universe.
The traditional basic painting taught will be four plants, namely pines, bamboos, orchids and plum trees.
Asian painting is an access way to Asian philosophy and creativity.
This class will be held in conjunction with Asian calligraphy class.
